چکیده

The development of slug $ow along two 10 m long inclined pipes (2–90◦ from the horizontal) with internal diameters of 0.024 and 0:054 m was measured by three optical 4ber probes. The probes were located in a measurement module at axial distances of 0:020 m between the 4ber tips. To measure the evolution of slug $ow, the module was placed at di6erent positions along the pipe. Instantaneous elongated bubble velocities and corresponding elongated bubble and liquid slug lengths were determined by processing the optical probe signals. The evolution of the liquid slug and elongated bubble length distributions along the pipes is characterized by a gradual growth of the mean and mode values. The growth rate decreases with decreasing inclination. Mean elongated bubble lengths have a minimum at about 60◦, while mean liquid slug lengths decrease slowly with decreasing inclination angle. The coalescence rate, de4ned as the decrease in the ensemble size, becomes almost negligible at x=D¿ 60, independent of pipe diameter, $ow rates and inclination angle. The slug frequency has a maximum at about 60◦ inclination. ? 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Hydrodynamic and statistical parameters of slug flow

In two-phase slug flow pattern, the bulk of the gas is trapped inside large bubbles that are separated by liquid slugs, which may contain small dispersed bubbles. The unsteady nature of slug flow makes the prediction of pressure drop and heat and mass transfer a difficult task. Earlier models that deal with steady slug flow assume constant lengths and shapes of liquid slugs and elongated bubble...

Simulation of gas-liquid two phase flow in upriser pipe of gas-lift systems

Gas-lift pumps are devices for lifting liquid phase incorporating the gas phase to be injected in the bottom of liquid column. They are widely used in various industrial applications such as oil extracting in petroleum industries. Gas-liquid flow being the main part of the flow through these systems, flowing in vertical pipes of gas-lift pumps has different regimes namely bubbly, slug, chur...

Measurement of Gas-Liquid Two-Phase Flow in Micro-Pipes by a Capacitance Sensor

A capacitance measurement system is developed for the measurement of gas-liquid two-phase flow in glass micro-pipes with inner diameters of 3.96, 2.65 and 1.56 mm, respectively. As a typical flow regime in a micro-pipe two-phase flow system, slug flow is chosen for this investigation. A capacitance sensor is designed and a high-resolution and high-speed capacitance measurement circuit is used t...

Non-Boiling Heat Transfer in Gas- Liquid Flow in Pipes – a Tutorial

In this tutorial the fundamentals of non-boiling heat transfer in two-phase twocomponent gas-liquid flow in pipes are presented. The techniques used for the determination of the different gas-liquid flow patterns (flow regimes) in vertical, horizontal, and inclined pipes are reviewed. The validity and limitations of the numerous heat transfer correlations that have been published in the literat...
